Mining and Extraction:

Dolomite is a naturally occurring mineral composed primarily of calcium magnesium carbonate (CaMg(CO₃)₂). The production process begins with the extraction of dolomite from natural deposits. These deposits are located in different geological structures and can be of varying quality and content.

Crushing:

• Transportation: After mining the dolomite rocks, they are then transported to a processing plant. This could include the use of trucks or belts depending on the location of the mine.
• Primary Crushing: In the processing plant, the dolomite rocks are subjected to a crushing process using crushers like jaw crushers. Jaw crushers operate by allowing a certain amount of the feed material to be crushed between two jaws, one of which is fixed and the other being moveable.
• Secondary Crushing: The material may then pass through secondary crushers such as impact crushers or cone crushers for further reduction of size. It is aimed at obtaining the product with the required particle size and good grindability.

Grinding:

• Ball Mills: The crushed dolomite is then taken to the grinding mills which are usually ball mills where it is ground into a fine powder. Ball mills use steel balls that are placed inside a rotating drum where the dolomite is broken down into fine particles through impact and abrasion.
• Roller Mills: However, roller mills can be used in which the dolomite is ground between two rotating cylindrical rollers. This type of mill is very efficient and is also able to produce very fine powders.
• Raymond Mills: In the process of grinding the dolomite, Raymond Mills employs a combination of airflow and rollers to achieve the required particle size. The material is conveyed and ground between rollers and a grinding ring by airflow.

Classification:

• Air Classification: The ground dolomite powder is then classified according to particle size through the use of air classifiers. In this process, air is employed to classify the fine powder from the coarse particles which are sent back to the grinding mill.
• Sieving: In some cases, mechanical sieves are employed to obtain the required particle size distribution. Sieving is a process of separating particles of different sizes through a series of screens with different-sized intervals of holes.

Packaging and Storage:

• Packaging: When the dolomite powder achieves the right level of fineness and quality, it is then sealed for delivery. It is available in bags of 25 kg or 50 kg as well as bulk bags or sacks depending on the customer’s requirement.
